COVID-19 Practice Update - Monday, 24th August 2020

Good morning to our patients. In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are seeing an extremely large amount of calls to our clinic looking for not just appointments, but advice on where to go and what to do.  We decided it would be helpful to you all, if we provided some quick links and information.

1.  We can conduct phone or video consultations to anyone who is wanting to be tested for COVID-19 through Sullivan and Nicolaides or QML Pathology.  Please do not present directly to our clinic if you have any symptoms, no matter how mild they may be.  Please call reception on: 3399 4685 or preferably, book a phone/video consultation online through our Hot Docs booking system.  Patients are getting an SMS with their result before we receive them here at the clinic.  The timeline for results is fluctuating at the moment from anywhere between 24-72 hours.  Please ask the collector at the time you are getting your swab done for an approximate turnaround time for your results.

Additionally, our phones are experiencing an overwhelming amount of calls, so we do remind you to please be patient as we try to attend to every caller as promptly as we can.  We are taking hundreds of calls per day at the moment.  Thank you for your patience and continued respect for our staff under tough and unrelenting working conditions.

2.  There are walk-in “fever” clinics where you do not need an appointment or pathology form and they are located at:

Mater Hospital
Logan Hospital
QE11 Hospital
Redland Hospital

We advise you to still phone the hospital directly to ask for directions as at the moment, things are changing on a daily basis.  The term “fever” can be misleading.  You are allowed to present for testing if you have just a runny nose or cough and no fever.  The current government guidelines say that anyone with even one flu-like symptom should be tested. 

The following information is directly off the Queensland Health website: “In Queensland, anyone who has any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, should get tested immediately. Symptoms include a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, fatigue and loss of smell or taste. It doesn’t matter if you have just one of these symptoms or a group of them, or whether you feel really sick or just a little unwell – if you’ve got any of these symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately to get tested. Before your appointment, please call ahead and tell them about your symptoms so they can prepare for your visit.”

3.  If you have booked an appointment previously for a regular appointment, e.g. script, referral, pap smear but wake with any cold or flu-like symptoms, please call us as soon as possible in the morning to discuss your options.
